Data Privacy Act was passed in the Philippines in 2012, this is a strict and comprehensive legislation “to protect the fundamental human right of privacy, of communication while ensuring free flow of information to promote innovation and growth.” (Republic Act. No. 10173, Ch. 1, Sec. 2). The National Privacy Commission was established to enforce and oversee the law and in September 9, 2016, the final implementing rules and regulations came into effect. The Quezon City Public Library (QCPL) initiated an awareness of the said legislation to its staff by conducting a seminar entitled “Data Privacy and Protection in the Public Library” held on June 19, 2019 at the QCPL Main building. It was attended by both librarians and support staff from different QCPL branches.en_US
